Na noite de ontem, "Nomadland" disparou como o favorito ao Oscar de melhor filme de 2021 — isso porque o longa de Chloé Zhao levou a categoria principal do PGA Awards, prêmio do sindicato dos produtores, conhecido por ser o melhor em prever o grande vencedor do Oscar.

Em 31 anos de existência, o PGA acertou o vencedor de melhor filme 21 vezes, um aproveitamento de 67%. Nos últimos dez anos, o sindicato dos produtores concordou com o Oscar de melhor filme sete vezes.

O ano ado foi uma das exceções, no entanto: o PGA deu seu prêmio de melhor filme para "1917", e o Oscar preferiu "Parasita".

"Nomadland" chega ao prêmio da Academia respaldado não só pelo sindicato dos produtores, como também pelo Globo de Ouro de melhor filme dramático, o Critics Choice de melhor filme, e dezenas de outras honras concedidas por associações de críticos ao redor do mundo.

O longa acompanha uma mulher (s McDormand) que perde o emprego e a casa, ando a morar em sua van e viajar pelos EUA em busca de vários bicos, construindo pelo caminho uma forma de vida diferente.

Além de melhor filme, "Nomadland" está indicado a outros cinco Oscar, incluindo melhor atriz, melhor direção e melhor roteiro (também de Chloé Zhao).
